MAKE A DIRECT IMPACT

Our volunteers are the heart of Main Street Petersburg. From helping with community events and historic preservation projects to supporting small business initiatives and public art programs, there’s always a meaningful way to get involved. Whether you have a few hours a month or want to take on a recurring role, your time and talents bring energy and momentum to the work we do. No special experience is required — just a passion for Petersburg and a willingness to lend a hand. Together, we can make a visible difference on the streets, in the shops, and throughout the neighborhoods that make our city unique.

Volunteer the Day of Event(s) Only

If you love being hands-on and part of the action, this is the perfect way to get involved. Day-of volunteers help with setup, check-in, hospitality, vendor support, guest assistance, and other on-site tasks that make our events run smoothly. It’s a flexible, low-commitment option — ideal if you want to contribute your time and energy when it matters most.

Estimated Time Commitment: 4–6 hours per event (opportunities available several times a year)

Serve on a Committee for an Annual Event

Want to play a bigger role in one of our signature events? Join a planning committee dedicated to one major event each year. You’ll help brainstorm ideas, coordinate logistics, connect with sponsors and partners, and shape the overall experience — all while building strong community relationships. This is a great option if you want to make a meaningful impact without an ongoing commitment.

Estimated Time Commitment: 2–4 hours per month for 3–4 months leading up to the event

Serve on a Committee That Meets Regularly

For those who want to help guide the long-term vision of downtown Petersburg, consider joining one of our 4 standing committees - Economic Vitality, Design, Organization & Promotions. These groups meet consistently throughout the year to plan programs, develop strategies, and oversee initiatives utilizing our Transformation Strategies for Main Street Petersburg: Dining & Entertainment, Tourism, Neighborhood Amenities and the Arts. . Your leadership and ideas will help shape projects that leave a lasting impact on the city.

Estimated Time Commitment: 2–3 hours per month, year-round (includes monthly meetings and occasional project work)

Building Community Through Conversation and Collaboration

At Main Street Petersburg, community outreach starts with connection. Our mission is to bring people together — especially those who live, work, and invest in our downtown — to share ideas, solve challenges, and shape the future of our city together. One of the ways we do this is through our Community Roundtables hosted by the Economic Vitality Committee,, where downtown business owners, entrepreneurs, and local leaders come together to exchange ideas, discover available resources, and explore initiatives that support growth. These conversations are the foundation for bigger things to come, and every voice helps us build a stronger, more vibrant Petersburg.
